Born in California, Lassen was always deeply interested in the wonders of nature, but his imagination was fired by the tropical splendor of Hawaii when his family moved to Maui when he was 11. His paintings reflect impressionism, absolute realism and a style uniquely his own which he describes as "Illusionary Realism."
